D-Minus Episode 1

So I've decided that a few side projects wouldn't hurt. So I'm gonna turn D-Minus into a series. Here's part of a script I've written in Celtx a few weeks ago:

The bell rings. View of the high school.

Holly and her friends Georgine and Clara are walking down the hallway, talking.

Georgine

So, Holly, who's this guy you're talking about?

Holly

Ohh, you know. -Blushes-

GEORGINE

Is he in our third period class?

HOLLY

Yes.

Clara

Um.. Spitzer?

HOLLY

-Shifty eyes- No. I'll give you a hint. He is right over there. -points to the locker where Jose Garcia is standing-

GEORGINE
Clara

-simultaneously- Jose?

HOLLY

-dreamy sigh- Ohh yes. Jose, mi amour! Every time I close my eyes it's like he's right there!

GEORGINE

Uh, Holly? He IS right there.

Clara

Why Jose? Why not someone a little less mellow? I mean Jose just doesn't seem your type.

HOLLY

You don't know me. I AM mellow!

GEORGINE

Holly, you're the most robust, hyperactive girl in class.

HOLLY

Well.. opposites DO attract.

CLARA

Well, in some aspects, yes.

HOLLY

You guys are just mad because you probably like him too. Well he's gonna be mine soon! You just wait and see!

GEORGINE

Would you like me to ask him out for you? You know Georgine and her ability to hook people up.

HOLLY

Would you after school? I need to prepare a little note for him first.

GEORGINE

Whatever. Let's just get to class.

In Class

Everyone is seated waiting for Mrs. Phelps.

GEORGINE

Where is that woman? She is always late!

Stefanie

I know! And I'm anxious to start taking notes on the Civil War!

GEORGINE

-rolls eyes-

HOLLY

Hey, Jose.

Jose

Uh. Hey.

HOLLY

So. uh.. -looks over at Georgine-

GEORGINE

-gestures at Holly to stop-

MRS. PHELPS

Good morning everyone! Sorry I'm late.

STEFANIE

Good morning, Mrs. Phelps!

MRS. PHELPS

Today's assignment: you must take notes on this video. It covers all of the Civil War.

Class

Awww!

Kathleen

That's muy bueno! Eh, Pierre?

Pierre

-Glares at Kathleen-

GEORGINE

The boy speaks French, hun.

KATHLEEN

...That was French.

MRS. PHELPS

-pops in the video- everybody take out your notebooks. After words I'll hand out a worksheet for you all to do.

CLASS

Awwww!

MRS. PHELPS

Stop that! Golly, if you think this is hard, try college.

Thomas

I'm not going to college.

MRS. PHELPS

Good luck in life then.

The video starts. All of the students are bored and drifting off, all except Stefanie, who is watching Spitzer, as usual.

STEFANIE

Hm.. I wonder why Spitzer's not been flirting with Connie lately..

SARAH

He already has a girlfriend, that's why.

STEFANIE

What?

SARAH

Yeah, her name's Maria. She's a senior. They've been going out since last week.

STEFANIE

Hmph! Not for long.

Meanwhile, Holly is writing a note to Jose.

Holly

-writing- Dear Jose: I can't stop thinking about you. Your beauty is like nothing I've ever laid eyes on. Every time I see you I think of us together..

The scene drifts from Holly writing it to Jose reading it.

JOSE

Your eyes are like that of an angel's. -stops reading- Hah, more like two hot fudge cakes. -He and his buddy laugh-

GEORGINE

Uh, not cool! Can't you see this girl really likes you? No need to make fun of her like that.

JOSE

Oh I'm sorry. I just don't date fat chicks.

GEORGINE

Uh, why does it matter so much that she's fat?

JOSE

She might eat me, that's why. -he and his buddy laugh again-

GEORGINE

Oh you're terrible.

Meanwhile

Spitzer, Jerr, and Sarah are walking home. Thomas sees them and walks up to Spitzer.

THOMAS

Hey pipsqueak!

SPITZER

What do you want Tommy?

THOMAS

That's Thomas to you, pal!

Jerr

Go on, Spitzer. Show him how much of a man you are!

SPITZER

Oh hush!

THOMAS

So I heard you and Maria broke up.

SPITZER

What? We didn't break up, who told you that?

THOMAS

Maria said so herself. She says you bore her half to death and you make her never want to date younger boys ever again.

SPITZER

No! Maria! -runs off. Jerr and Sarah shrug and follow him-

STEFANIE

-comes out of the bushes- Thank you, Thomas! -hugs him-

THOMAS

-pushes her away- Yeah yeah, you owe me!


Holly's house

Holly is waiting on the porch while Georgine and Clara show up. Holly is elated.

HOLLY

So, what did he say? What did he say?

GEORGINE

Uh.. Clara?

CLARA

You tell her. you're more diplomatic than I am.

HOLLY

-smile fades- Uh, what does diplomatic mean?

GEORGINE

Well, uh.. Jose said no.

HOLLY

Did he say why?

GEORGINE

-looks nervously at Clara- Uh.. Yeah.

HOLLY

And?

GEORGINE

He said.. he said.. he doesn't date girls who.. you know..

HOLLY

Girls who are what?

GEORGINE

..Big.

HOLLY

You mean he doesn't want to date me because I'm.. I'm fat?

GEORGINE

I am so sorry Holly!

HOLLY

It's not your fault! It's mine.. I shouldn't eat so much.

GEORGINE

Holly, it doesn't matter even if you were-

HOLLY

Yes it does matter! I'm fat and that's why boys don't want to date me!

CLARA

Boys date Diana and she's fat.

GEORGINE

Exactly!

HOLLY

But she's pretty in the face!

GEORGINE

And you are too, Holly.

HOLLY

You liar! I'll show Jose that I can look like the girl he daydreams of! You just wait!

GEORGINE

Uh, aren't you taking this a little over your head?

CLARA

Yeah, Georgine is right. I mean, rejection hurts but we all go through it.

HOLLY

Not pretty girls! Maybe if I was pretty I wouldn't be rejected like this.

GEORGINE

Oh Holly. -shakes head-

HOLLY

You guys go ahead and get home. I've got things I've got to do!

GEORGINE/CLARA

-Look at each other-

Spitzer's House

Spitzer's dialing Maria's number.

SPITZER

Please pick up, Maria! ..Please!

Maria

Hi, you've reached the house of Maria Peters. I can't come to the phone right now but if you leave your name, number-

SPITZER

Gah, this is the fifteenth time I've tried to reach her!

JERR

Dude, he really wasn't joking was he?

SPITZER

Shut up! I just have to keep trying! Maybe she's out of town or something.

Sarah

It is possible that-

SPITZER

No! Shut up, it's not!

HOLLY'S HOUSE

Holly is running on a treadmill. Her mom comes in with an ice cream shake.

holly's Mom

Would you like a sundae to replenish your energy?

HOLLY

No thanks, Mom. I'm on a serious diet here!

HOLLY'S MOM

-puzzled- Okay, dear.

HOLLY

I'll show you, Jose!
